The woodstore with hundreds (over 2000 at last count) of European and exotic hardwood blanks all on display and priced. Blanks are mostly discs or chunky square section, planed so you can see the grain. There are also usually some burrs, banskia nuts etc. |
To find us navigate to Great Yeldham on the A1017 (was the A604) between Halstead (6miles) and Haverhill (7miles). Turn off the main road near the post office. You will immediately see a Y fork - take the right fork signed Gestingthorpe/Bulmer. Three quarters of a mile on, you will see a junction sign and "slow" marked on road. 70 yards beyond, pull into the concealed farm yard entrance on the left just before a little postbox on right, and 30 yards before you get to the junction (with Hyde Wood Road). The concealed entrance is marked with a white sign "Woodturning Supplies".
From the Little Yeldham direction we are 1 mile from Little Yeldham church (with wooden steeple). Head for Great Yeldham. Go 30 yards past the junction with Hyde Wood Road and turn right into our entrance just past small postbox on left on pole.(entrance difficult to see and sign not visible from this direction).
WE ARE CLOSED ON SUNDAYS AND MONDAYS otherwise open 9 to 4-30pm.

Christopher Child (second son) offers tuition based on Peter's original 2 day course. He is known for his many magazine articles on woodturning.

This website, as you have guessed, is not a slick commercial one but a humble homespun affair cobbled up in evenings and weekends. If some pages are out of date I am sorry but it is just that the shop and manufacturing have to take priority. I have tried to make it as simple as possible, with no fancy effects, to give you quicker download. It was first written in raw HTML using a text editor on an Acorn computer. Acorn computers were British made with a British operating system (not Windows) running on a British inspired microprocessor (StrongARM now made by Intel). If you want to know more try this link www.riscos.org If you have sworn at your PC lately you might just consider the alternative virus-proof incorruptible OS. I reckon I am two or three times more productive on RiscOS than on Windows especially on DTP, colour advertisements etc. I now also use Linux as much as possible and manage to avoid M$ Windows most of the time.
I learned HTML using Joe Barta's excellent web tutor, the basic version of which you can download free from www.pagetutor.com It is really useful to learn even a few elementary HTML tags and it gives you the ability to fine tune your website. It is so easy! I never even considered using Frontpage or similar programs.
